We are currently representing people who have taken the anti-inflammatory drug Vioxx. This drug has been consumed by thousands of victims prior to its recall. We are working to ensure that our clients receive proper treatment and recover damages for injuries suffered.
Vioxx, a prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, was approved by the FDA in May of 1999 for the management of acute pain in adults, the treatment of osteoarthritis, and the relief of menstrual symptoms. Merck & Co., the sole manufacturer of Vioxx, promoted the drug as posing a lower risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulcers than other comparable drugs.
By June of 2000, Merck was made aware of a safety study called VIGOR (Vioxx Gastrointestinal Outcomes Research) which found an increased risk of serious cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes, in patients taking Vioxx when compared to patients taking similar non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
On September 30, 2004 Merck voluntarily withdrew Vioxx from the U.S. and worldwide markets due to the above reported risks and several reported cases of serious injuries caused by the drug.
If you or a family member have taken Vioxx and would like more information concerning your legal rights, we encourage you to contact an attorney at Touhy & Touhy Ltd.
